Summer 2024 Application Instructions
You may submit your application either through the NSF ETAP portal or through our internal application process. Both are viewed equally in terms of our selection process.
NSF ETAP
This new portal will enable you to apply to our program and other REU programs across the country through a common application.
- Create your account with ETAP. You must first create an account and log in. https://www.etap.nsf.gov/
- You may start adding personal information before you apply. This information will be included in your application to all REU programs you apply to through ETAP.
- Letters of Recommendation. Request two letters early in the process. The ETAP system does not allow us to view your application until the letters are received.
- Transcripts may be official or unofficial. You will need to upload a scanned version.
- Personal statement: Discuss your academic plans, noteworthy scholarly achievements, career interests and objectives, work experience, community involvement and personal interests. Please also discuss why you are interested in participating and why you wish to pursue a career in the sciences (including teaching). Two page limit.
Internal Application Process
- Autobiographical sketch: You may want to create this in a Word document and cut/paste into the application.
Discuss your academic plans, noteworthy scholarly achievements, career interests and objectives, work experience, community involvement and personal interests. Please also discuss how you learned about this program and why you are interested in participating. Also indicate why you wish to pursue a career in the sciences, including teaching. (Two page limit)
- Submit by email or regular mail to Dr. Van A Doze at the address below:
- Two letters of recommendation – on letterhead and signed; request that they be submitted directly by the writer.
- Transcripts – may be unofficial or official (issued to student or mailed directly from school)
