Information Resources


Information resources serves the UND SMHS by supplying state-of-the-art information technologies, contemporary information management methods, committed capable support personnel and support for new innovative initiatives by the faculty.  Located within the structure of information resources is Medical Media.  Medical Media supports the graphic and photographic needs for education, marketing and research within the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, the University Community and the Greater Grand Forks Community.  The ND INBRE helps support information resources at the UND SMHS in order to provide assistance to all partners of the ND INBRE that do not have equivalent technologies on their campuses.

Consultation:

The ND INBRE will support from internal resources consultation costs for partners of the ND INBRE that need advice in the following areas of information resources.

Server and Systems Management

Assists in development, implementation, installation, maintenance and coordination of servers/systems for SMHS campuses and remote sites. Analyze, monitor and correct server problems. Conduct research to evaluate new technologies. Assist faculty, staff and students in developing expertise in using networked resources. Help coordinate network infrastructure with UND ITSS and North Dakota ITD.  Ensure compliance with campus and state policies and standards.   Assists with the responsibility for server backups and disaster recovery.

Computer & Communication Hardware Application Support

Identify, research and select technologies or systems to support strategic direction.  Allocate system resources. Plan, design, program, install and maintain specialized computer systems.   Ensure compliance with software standards and licensing requirements.  Diagnosis and repair of malfunctioning hardware and software.  Support of student computer labs and resources.   Create, manage & support email user accounts, distribution list and listservs. Support of video conferencing, video display network and wireless devices.

Application/Database Development

Build and maintain databases, web, mobile, and desktop applications. Provide support for the legacy and commercial applications systems.

Medical Media

The Medical Media division of Information Resources does photography, graphic design work and desktop publishing. They design original artwork for advertisements, research, and marketing; layout and prepare publications for press; enhance digital photography; assist faculty, staff and students with posters and presentations.

Audiovisual

Upgrade, maintenance and installation of all audio and visual systems. Responsible for general system design, bidding and procurement, installation, programing, conditioning, user training and daily operation. Audio visual systems include touch panel / IP based control systems, video & audio conferencing equipment, audio and visual switching and distribution gear, lecture capture recorders, sound reinforcement / recording systems, and digital signage.
