UND hosts Proteomics Core Workshop

June 5, 2010 - Dr. John Shabb, UND Dept of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, hosted the ND INBRE Proteomics Core Workshop, June 2-4, 2010. Attending were Amanda Roise (Keller lab) and Amanda Kraft (Beachy lab) from Minot State; Hardy DeLong and Allison Alland with Dr. Khwaja Hossain (Mayville State). In addition, Dr. Shabb's students participated: Jason Brule, Melissa Pytlik, Tanner Anderson and John Reidinger. In the workshop, participants learned the basics of mass spectrometry and its application to the study of protein structure; prepared a purified protein sample and used mass spec to determine intact mass, peptide mass fingerprint, and peptide sequence. Training also included interpreting MS and MSMS data using fundamentals of manual spectral analysis and database searching. Wallace Muhonen, M.S., Core Research Specialist was also a workshop leader.
